Kūmānu is proud to deliver pest animal monitoring and control in the Maitai Valley on behalf of Nelson City Council’s Science and Environment Team. A network of monitoring and control devices targeting possums, rodents, and mustelids has been established to protect high-value native species and habitats.
Kūmānu also uses trail cameras supported by the Department of Conservation’s AI species identifier, Alita, to detect and classify pest species within the valley and in an adjacent no-treatment site. This innovative approach provides data to evaluate control effectiveness, reduce predator populations, and support the recovery of native wildlife.
