Stoke Youth Park

Kūmānu partnered with Nelson City Council and the Stoke Youth Council to help realise a long-awaited vision for a dedicated youth hub in one of Nelson’s fastest-growing communities. The project builds on feedback dating back to 2014, when local residents and young people identified the absence of youth-focused spaces as a key gap in Stoke’s social and recreational environment.

Working closely with Whanake Youth, Nelson City Youth Council, and local schools, we led a collaborative design and engagement process to shape a place that genuinely reflects the needs and aspirations of young people. Through concept development, public consultation, and iterative design, the project evolved into a vibrant, multi-use destination that encourages activity, connection, and pride of place.

Improvements to car parking west of Stoke Hall ensure community access is supported as facilities reopen and grow. The result is a welcoming, energetic space designed with and for the youth of Stoke, strengthening community identity and everyday wellbeing.
