Kūmānu partnered with Nelson City Council and the Stoke Youth Council to help realise a long-awaited vision for a dedicated youth hub in one of Nelson’s fastest-growing communities. The project builds on feedback dating back to 2014, when local residents and young people identified the absence of youth-focused spaces as a key gap in Stoke’s social and recreational environment.
Working closely with Whanake Youth, Nelson City Youth Council, and local schools, we led a collaborative design and engagement process to shape a place that genuinely reflects the needs and aspirations of young people. Through concept development, public consultation, and iterative design, the project evolved into a vibrant, multi-use destination that encourages activity, connection, and pride of place.
